2018 Youth Conservation Camp 

We are now accepting applications from grades 9-12 for the 42nd Annual Youth Conservation Camp at Virginia Tech.  Camp will be held Sunday, July 8 through Saturday, July 14, 2018.

Please complete and return your application to Halifax SWCD office at 171 S. Main Street / PO Box 247, Halifax, VA 24558 by April 11, 2018.

2018 Scholarship Opportunities

We are happy to announce that the board has approved increasing two of our local scholarship amounts from $1,000 to $1,500.

The deadline has been extended to March 7, 2018.

the Halifax SWCD will be awarding three scholarships. This local scholarship opportunity includes two J. T. Burton Natural Resources Scholarships for the amount of $1,500 and one Halifax SWCD Memorial Scholarship for the amount of $1,000. Scholarship applicants should be majoring in, or show a strong desire to major in, a college course curriculum related to natural resource conservation and/or environmental studies. Halifax SWCD will also select one applicant to be considered for state-wide scholarship opportunities.  A single application should be submitted to the Halifax SWCE office by March 7, 2018 to be considered for all scholarship opportunities listed above.

February 13, 2018 –  Row Crop Production.  Feature Speakers – David Holshauser – Associate Professor, Argronomics & Soybean Production & Wade Thomason – Professor, Corn and Small Grain Ecosystems and Management.  Sponsor: Crop Production Service-Crystal Hill

March 13, 2018 – Soil Health and Grazing Annuals.

All meetings will be held at the Halifax County Agricultural Marketing Center from 9 am until 11 am.  Please RSVP to Halifax SWCD at 434-476-7923 by the day before the meeting.  The meetings are free to attend.
